Typekit

Typekit has been acquired by Adobe on October 3, 2011. Basically Typekit is a one stop solution that doesn’t require much technical savvy. Typekit is very popular. However, not everyone uses it — mainly because of a monthly (yearly) fee. You do not own any fonts, you just “rent” them. Adobe seems to be making a bet that there’s a big market out there consisting of people who just want to make things without necessarily wanting to understand what’s going on behind the scenes. I think they’re probably right.

This also plays right into their subscription and cloud-based direction: storage in the cloud, apps in the cloud, fonts licensed and served from the cloud – and all of it for a monthly fee.
