The toasting time is erratic, and slow, meaning that each usage is trial and error. I've tried and tried, and error-ed and error-ed, and now I'm stuck with this piece of junk. Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible ToasterComment: This toaster is an ill-conceived mess! I know, it's a toaster, what do I expect? Well, I expect that it should take less than 6 minutes to make toast. I expect that when the toast FINALLY pops up, that I will be able to extract the toast with my fingers without risking electrocution. On other toasters, when you push the lever up, the baskets extend jut slightly so the toast is easily accessible. Not this toaster. Unless the toast is taller than the basket, you're digging down in the basket to retrieve the toast. So.... every time I want to make toast, it takes forever, then I have to unplug the toaster so I can dig around in the baskets with tongs or a knife to get the toast out. It isn't as if I'm toasting miniature items - "regular" wheat bread requires an extraction tool to retrieve. I would not recommend this toaster to anyone - especially those families with children who a) want toast in an expedient fashion and b) don't want the hassle of unplugging the appliance in order to retrieve the toast.Customer Rating: Summary: Right toast lever won't stay downComment: this is my first review and I'm writing it because we are pretty unhappy with this toaster. Agree with another reviewer, it is ugly and a space hog. However, I'm willing to overlook that if it actually worked. My problem is that the right side toast lever will not stay depressed. It takes several tries to get it to stay down and if I then try to put two more pieces of bread in the left side (which seams to work ok) it will usually pop up immediately or before the bread on the right is toasted. Just learned from Amazon that they won't take it back for two reasons: 1) I'm outside the 30 day window and 2) I don't have the original packaging. So now I'm trying w/ the warranty since I've only had it for about 2 months. Lesson learned: never throw away original packaging and send stuff back to Amazon within the 30 day window! They were nice enough to give me a credit for my next purchase. We were a little concerned about buying B & D after some of the reviews we read, but we are happy with this toaster so far.(We also bought a B&D toaster oven at the same time.)
