ASE Support in Fireworks CS5

Fireworks is being upgraded for a better integration with other applications and now provides support for .ase color swatch format.

ASE stands for Adobe Swatch Exchange which allows users to conveniently share swatches across Creative Suite Applications. ASE files can be shared among Fireworks, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Adobe Kuler.

2. Swatches palette

In the Swatches palette menu choose one of the following :Add,Replace or Save Swatches, and select the ASE file type to save in the ASE format.

Saving in the ASE format creates a .ASE file that you can store conveniently.

3. Workflows

Importing swatches from Photoshop

1. Open Photoshop and open the Swatches Panel from the windows menu
2. From the swatches fly out menu click on save swatches for exchange. Save the swatches file to a convenient location.
3. Open Fireworks and its swatches panel.
4. From the fly out menu click on Add Swatches. From the file extension dropdown choose ASE.

Exporting swatches to Photoshop

1. Follow the steps in reverse. Choose Save Swatches in Fireworks along as ASE.
2. From the swatches fly out menu click on save swatches for exchange. Save the swatches file to a convenient location.
4. Color Palette

Color Palette (Window > Others > Color Palette) cannot export in ase only in act format which can be used in Fireworks only.

The workaround is to export as ACT in color palette and import to swatches and lastly to save as ASE.
