A promise ring is significant as it is otherwise called as friendship ring. This ring denotes the power of love or the romantic activities behind it. It is a symbol of real affection between the love partners before becoming life partners. The intention is revealed before marriage is taking place. The lover woos the fianc?e by giving a beautiful present in the form of a ring. He feels that the time is ripe only for the expression of love as it will be followed by either engagement or wedding in the regular course. The ring can be worn on any finger either of left hand or right hand. In the beginning it is worn an the left hand finger but at the time of engagement to avoid confusion the right hand is also chosen for the purpose of wearing it.

Promise ring is also called as class ring, pointing out the fact that the couple is going steady and the relationship is exclusively to move with one another with the hope of success. There are two things that one must bear in mind to stress the importance of the ring by its value or by the size of the gem. Usually many promise rings are not costly when compared to the traditional rings as gems of small sizes are used. Apart from romance, promise ring is worn as a mark of true friendship. Young people are more willing to wear friendship ring generally. Seriousness of the ring
At times the promise ring is not seriously viewed among teenagers. The main reason is both male and the female partner happen to be too young, raising questions whether they are valid persons for wedding. In some cases one such partner may be unwilling due to family problems or the status of their family. It is observed that in some cases pre marital sex is not favored; so a promise ring is presented to postpone sex affairs before wedding and this promise ring is substituted by wedding ring later on. This does also seem to be a kind of safeguard for both of them as they will have to keep their promise. Some more options are more interesting to know. The young people assure the partners with pure platonic vows or oaths. To give promise in advance of wedding; not to smoke; not to drink wine or any form of liquor. This type of promise ring can be worn by any one; may be father or son; or a friend and so on.
American promise rings
The promise ring is worn in America by the singers as they have a fancy for this. Milwaukee and Wisconsin started this practice in 1995.The American band first known as emo and next as indie pop began wearing the ring. Another singer Davey von Bohlen as a Guitarist or vocalist followed the practice and as a result the audiences were very attracted and they began to go in for the ring. The troupes undertook several projects and the Promise Ring was the root cause behind it.
Album
In 1996, Jade Tree Records created a sensational wave amidst the people when they released a full length album; the title was "30 degrees Every where" and they created the next album "Nothing Feels Good". The promise ring made them inspired to make novel project and helped them to stand united because of the effect of the ring. More and more singers joined in the stream including the guitarist Jason Gnewikow, drummer Dan Didier and bassist Scott Beschta. It seemed the entire music world was attracted by the promise ring. In 1997, another album by name "The Horse Latitudes" was remarkable indeed to not only to stress the ebb and flow of music but also the emotions and feelings as gained by the ring. In 1998, one more album Boys and Girls was released and it was also an instant success with the promise ring playing an important role once again.
The trend setting
A small ring with the name of Promise or friendship surpasses the area of pre marriage state and friendship. The ring has not only got a halo of cultural value but also have commercial value in course of time. Slowly but steadily it spread to other countries and became popular with youngsters and singers. While quoting the cultural impact one must accept the truth that the ring makes lovers keep themselves within reasonable limits. To remain within the limit and not to exceed it in the name of over affection is always welcome. Thus the ring serves the purpose than any other one. Such kind of compulsion cannot be enforced even by law. In society the promise ring right from the beginning is considered a valuable article, less or more as the case may be. The romantic people perceive it to be a token of love and other than these people many take it to be a symbol of friendship as the music troupes did in America spreading sensational waves.
Conclusion
It is well sung that "men may come and men may go, but I go on forever". In that line the first person I is emphatic to stand not only for human beings but also for human values that give life to culture or civilization in the society. Very often human values are represented by gifts like these promise rings. Hope at least these promise rings would help in the people keeping up their promises.
