The overflow indicator in Adobe Fireworks when there is more text than can be displayed in the text block.
Fireworks CS4 and higher.
Overflow indicator can be seen in different scenarios:
When you make the text object too small to display any text the overflow indicator appears. Clicking on it doesn't modify the text block.
When you obtain the overflow indicator symbol, try to move it with a keyboard arrow, the text block will become overstretched and goes beyond the canvas as in video 4.
With Text on a path where the path is shorter than the text string
With Text in path where the block of text is bigger than the area of the path
When you copy straight quotes (single or double), smart quotes, chevrons from a text.
Open a Fireworks document and paste the quote inside it (without using the Text tool and opening a text block)
When you resize the symbol, the overflow indicator appears and the text block becomes overstretched and goes beyond the canvas. See video.
When you copy a single letter or a symbol from a text, paste it in a Fireworks document, resize it and the text block becomes overstretched and goes beyond the canvas as in scenario 4.
