What is white gold?
An alloy of gold and some white metal like silver and palladium is called white gold. white gold can be 9 to 18 kt. 18 kt white gold is made by mixiing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as silver and palladium. Yellow gold uses 25% of copper and zinc. Hence the metals used differ but the amount of gold is the same.
Nickel was used earlier. Modern trend discontinued the use of Nickel as it causes reactions with some people.
After making the jewellery the white gold is coated with Rhodium. This gives the actual white colour to the gold because white gold is actually light grey colour. To keep the original white colour the jewellery should be re coated with rhodium after 12 to 18 months.
