Originally developed by DuPont for bullet-resistant vests and military flak jackets, ballistic provides a smooth, bright, high-quality look and feel for luggage, packs and bags. Nylon is the best fabric available for bat bags. Most bat bags you see in shops are made in en masse in the Orient from 600 D vinyl coated polyester. Quite simply, polyester is a little bit lower on the quality chain than nylon. Its also a lot cheaper. Coating it with vinyl does not make up for the poor strength qualities as vinyl tends to crack with use and lower temperature.
Fabrics made from Ballistic nylon are rugged and abrasion-resistant, outlasting polyester and standard nylon 2-to-1 and cotton duck 14-to-1.
Some manufacturers use 1000 D cordura. This material has High tenacity and is light weight. The best part is that its abrasion resistant and is widely used for the production of military uniforms, luggage and bags, outdoor clothing and sportswear. This material is excellent as a liner in your bag.
A well designed bat bag should last you anything from 5 to 10 years depending upon your usage. Over that much time, your cost per year can be relatively low. Hence you must select your ski bag judiciously.
