The country recorded 372,269 foreign visitors in the past month against 317,498 a year earlier, while foreign exchange earnings rose 28.8 per cent to $570.53 million.

 

Adventure Tourism is one of the main areas of attraction for foreign tourists to the country. Apart from other adventures sports India offers, the land based activities include mountaineering, trekking; water based activities are river running and rafting and air based adventure like parasailing, paragliding and bungee Jumping.

 

Let us what India offers to the serious mountaineer.

 

The Himalayas are dream destinations for many mountaineers from all over the world. India Travel mountain chains offer challenging adventure conditions and opportunities with some worlds toughest and highest peaks. Himalayas contain 100 peaks above 6000 meters height and many of them have been conquered by various America, European and Asian teams.

 

Mountaineering is a serious activity and one need a caliber and fitness levels and to scale the peaks and conquer them with out any physical injury ii is very difficult.

 

A variety of mountaineering institutions provide training, logistic support services to reach the summit or nearly to the summit. There are many private and government certified expedition specialists in India. They are registered tour operators with ministry of Tourism in Adventure sports and mountaineering.

 

Generally the expedition operators have very experienced mountaineers and porters and they provide all the logistic arrangements including all the materials, transport vehicles. On demand they provide you with an experienced doctor to the expedition party who will be a specialist in high altitude sickness.

 

In case of emergency arrangements for evacuation assistance is also made. Expedition operators provide safety equipment like walkie-talkie radios and recommended medical supplies, which are mandatory.

 

Government insists that the life dependent equipment must be Union International de Alpine Association (UIAA) or European Union (EU) certified.

 

Government also insists the India Travel operators to have sufficient knowledge about environmental impact of expeditions and they have to undertake a pledge that they strictly adhere to environmental guidelines of Union International de Alpine Association (UIAA)/Himalayan Environment Trust (HET) etc.

 

Dos

 

Carry back all non-degradable litter such as empty bottles, tins, plastic bags etc. These must not litter the environment or be buried.

 

Observe the sanctity of holy sites, temples and local cultures.

 

Cut noise pollution. Do not blare aloud radios, tape recorders or other electronic entertainment equipment in nature resorts, sanctuaries and wildlife parks.

 

In case temporary toilets are set-up near campsites, after defecation, cover with mud or sand. Make sure that the spot is at least 30 meters away from the water source.

 

Respect people's privacy while taking photographs. Ask for prior permission before taking a photograph.

 

Donts

 

Do not take away flora and fauna in the forms of cuttings, seeds or roots. It is illegal, especially in the Himalayas. The environment is really delicate in this region and the bio-diversity of the region has to be protected at all costs.

 

Do not use pollutants such as detergent, in streams or springs while washing and bathing.

 

Do not use wood as fuel to cook food at the campsite.

 

Do not leave cigarettes butts or make open fires in the forests.

 

Do not consume aerated drinks, alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicant and throw bottles in the wild.

 

Do not tempt the locals, especially children by offering them foodstuff or sweets. Respect local traditions.

 

Polythene and plastics are non biodegradable and unhealthy for the environment and must not be used and littered.
