Having searched around for a grunge effect for text in Fireworks CS5 and not finding anything I really liked, I decided I would do one myself, and realizing it was pretty straightforward, I wrote up a tutorial for the procedure.

There is an adage that goes like this, âThe proof is in the puddingâ. Translated, To fully test something you need to experience it yourself. Yes, itâs from the old English language days but the meaning still bears some relevance for this present time.

This eBook is a step-by-step walk-through of the CSS3 mobile pack for AdobeÂź FireworksÂź CS5/5.1. If youâve found yourself wondering how Adobe Fireworks can fit into your web and mobile design workflows, or how you can introduce students to a visual method of designing for mobile, I may have just the thing for you.
While there are already a couple good how-to tutorials available at the Fireworks Developer Center, I wanted to take a deeper, more practical approach to this new extension.

Many designers use Adobe Fireworks to create wireframes, page mockups, and prototypes. It’s easy to create designs and graphics in Fireworks and use them in Flash Catalyst. Using Fireworks, you can create custom components and even more complex interactive prototypes by exporting to the files to the FXG graphics format.

Learn how to install the CSS3 Mobile Pack for Adobe Fireworks CS5 and CS5.1. You’ll see how to work with the extension to extract the properties (rounded corners, opacity, and more) of a selected object and map the design to CSS3 for use on the web with a focus on the two new features: jQuery Mobile theme skinning and CSS Properties panel http://bitly.com/r2ob5h.
And don’t foreget the jQuery theme skinning tutorial as well: http://bitly.com/p6rfHK

When it comes to user interface design, Adobe Fireworks is an excellent tool for laying out your ideas and also for creating cutting edge graphics for your App/Website. Like in any other graphic software, there are different ways to create one effect. However, the result doesnât always look the same for each method. In this article, I want to show you how to achieve real pixel perfection in your designs.

This tutorial will show you how to make transparent background in Fireworks with PNG and GIF formats.

Typekit has been acquired by Adobe on October 3, 2011. Basically Typekit is a one stop solution that doesnât require much technical savvy. Typekit is very popular. However, not everyone uses it — mainly because of a monthly (yearly) fee. You do not own any fonts, you just “rent” them. Adobe seems to be making a bet that thereâs a big market out there consisting of people who just want to make things without necessarily wanting to understand whatâs going on behind the scenes. I think theyâre probably right.
This also plays right into their subscription and cloud-based direction: storage in the cloud, apps in the cloud, fonts licensed and served from the cloud – and all of it for a monthly fee.

Right now Iâm just focusing on improving the quality of the the SVG output. For instance Iâve noticed some weirdness with how elliptical gradients are positioned sometimes. My experience with SVG beyond this project is in fact very limited, so thereâs a lot of practical testing that needs to be done.
Anyway, feel free to download it and give it a try:

Iâm working on an article/tutorial/documentation here:

Any feedback on SVG export extension or the article would be super.
One of the best features of Adobe Fireworks is the ability to extend its functionality with custom commands and command panels. However, most third-party command panels do not have their own icons for the workspace, and when you install them they are assigned the default command panel icons.

Export Responsive Prototype allows you to simulate responsive design in Adobe Fireworks when you put designs for each media query breakpoint on separate pages.

This set of 31 gestures for Adobe Fireworks as rich symbols is a unique set of resources for software designers and developers working on touch-based user interfaces.

Adjust 9-slice is John Dunning’s latest extension. Tweaking the 9-slice guides in a symbol can be a pain, since you have to keep going into symbol editing mode to make a change, and then back out to the canvas to see the effect on the symbol instances. The Adjust 9-Slice panel lets you move the guides while seeing the effects in realtime.
