Down sleeping bags
Sleeping bags are the bags which are used to sleep in. They are the substitutes for beds and mattresses during camping or outdoor adventures. They are easy to carry and transport. They are designed to insulate and give comfort while sleeping in them. Bottom of the bag has cushioning while upper part is like a blanket, attached together with a zipper. To some extent, they protect from wind and exposure. The amount of warmth a sleeping bag provides depends on two factors type of stuffing and amount of stuffing. Generally, feathers, wool, cotton etc are used as stuffing. The shape of a sleeping bag is either rectangular or they are "mummy" shaped. The mummy shaped bag is usually broader where the shoulders fit and narrower where the feet of a person fit. Most of the sleeping bags are unisex. However, few sleeping bags are available in both a male and a female type.
Down sleeping bags
"Down" is the under part of the bird feather. Bags with stuffing of down are known as "down sleeping bags". Down keeps the bird warm. In the same way it is used in sleeping bags to keep us warm. Down sleeping bags are warmer as compared to the synthetic sleeping bags. However, they are expensive than the synthetic sleeping bags. Down sleeping bags stuffed in less quantity, provide more amount of warmth. So, they are lighter than the synthetic sleeping bags. Down sleeping bags loose their insulation if they get wet. Where as, the synthetic ones retain their insulation even in rains.
However, few down sleeping bags have waterproof shells to keep them protected from getting wet. Down sleeping bags need more care than synthetic sleeping bags. Down sleeping bags should be stored in large storage sacks and not compressed traveling sacks. "Slumber down sleeping bags" are the down sleeping bags for children. They are designed for indoor usage than outdoor camping. As, they are usually used by children, they come in fancy colours and prints. Many of them have comic heroes and other media icons printed on them. They make sleeping on floor more comfortable. They can be best used for staying over at someone\'s place or family visits or occasions where there is not enough space on the beds to sleep for everyone. Few types of down are: duck down, Chinese goose down, Hungarian goose down, standard Polish goose down and super Polish goose down.

Down sleeping bags are warmer and lighter than the synthetic sleeping bags. Hence, they are expensive. They need more care. They should be protected from getting wet and one should avoid carrying them to places having moist weather conditions, as they are not water resistant. One should choose the shape and size of the down sleeping bags according to his body measurement and comfort. One should buy good quality, branded down sleeping bag, as many sellers sell synthetic sleeping bags naming them as down sleeping bags. Such bags become useless after sometime.
