Not sure how many of you are doing (or considering) iPhone related work, but I wanted to let you know that we just posted a Fireworks file for creating iPhone UI mockups (prototypes).

It’s pretty clear to me that Fireworks is a much better environment for doing this kind of work than Photoshop, and I’d love to spread the word about this to anyone who you think would be interested.

Also, I’m a Fireworks fanatic, but that’s different than being a Fireworks expert. If any of you have any feedback about the file itself, I’d love to hear it.

Well I started it around the time I was reading about the UI changes in CS4, the UI in most of the Adobe programs was a little ropey and it looked like it was gonna get even worse.

If you’ve been using Fireworks CS4 with text lately, you may have noticed a little issue where the bounding box of the text will sometimes find itself floating away from the actual, visible text. OK, it doesn’t really “float” but sometimes its obvious that they somehow no longer match up. I warmly recommend among others David Hogue’s 3 videos on wireframing and prototyping. Watch also Nick Myers’s video: Fireworks CS4 and the Design Spectrum. If you set the video cursor to 15:54 you will be able to see wireframes from the GoldMail application for sharing photos, from a previous tutorial: Designing interactive products with Fireworks. You will notice that Nick Myers from Cooper is using mainly states to create a scenario and not pages.

For the New Year Specky Boy aka Alfred Andrew has put together a collection of Fireworks resources worth a visit.

He notices that Fireworks resources are scarce and scattered on the web. Well, Fireworks has always been treated as a second rate application during the Macromedia era giving the sense among users and non-users of a minor tool which is no longer the case with Adobe and Fireworks CS3 onwards.

Next step with CS5 and higher will be to continue the overhauling and upgrading of Adobe Fireworks to restore its image and provide at the end of the day a compelling and updated application.

Auto Save will save your work automatically. Set the time of Auto Save from 01 (for 1 minute) to several hours. Then enable the Auto Save and Auto Save will regularly update the original PNG file. Definitely a must-have. Download.
